0 for 4

So all the chicks we bought this year ended up being Roosters, which totally sucks because we had to get rid of all of them and the one we kept for a while didn't produce nothing if you know what I mean. So Swoop, Chickalee, poppy wings and Bee are all gone, we thought for sure Bee was a girl because it had been over a month since we got rid of the last one and just know Bee started to crow. But what do you do, they all went to good homes and we enjoyed them for a while. Funny story about Poppy wings when the buyers asked if he had a name Brett was unsure what to say, but he did with much explanation as to why.

These are our two white chicks. Chickalee is the smaller one, and the other one is called poopy-wings for the time being. They are growing way fast and I am pretty sure poopy-wings is a boy.

In case you were wondering where the name poopy-wings came from, the night we brought them home they were all over each other and this one got pooped on, it was a pain to try to clean up, then a few weeks later it happened again, so that is the name I have given him until someone gives me something better.

We would have more pics, except it keeps snowing....so much for spring.

Sick Silkies

So we have had to battle a cold going around our chicken coop. We got back from St. George to find one of our white ones, Chickalee, was sick, she was sneezing, which is funny to hear, unless they do it a ton because they are sick, and one of her eyes was stuck shut. We quarantined her, and medicated her, and she got better, then Swoop got it. Swoop appears to be having a harder time with it. She has had both eyes shut a few times. Today, however it appears she is getting better, she is eating and drinking more, and her eye was easier to get open today.
Thanks to Chris and Bethany for your help with the sick chicks.

Here are a couple of pics from today. Smokey is being a great mom, she picks out the food and breaks it up for the chicks, she rounds up the little criers when they wander away from the group. She loves every minute of it, the chicks on the other hand, are not quite so sure about the whole thing.

So far we have two of our baby chicks named.

This one was named Swoop by the Elzingas...mostly Jared.

This one was named Chickaly (chick-a-lee) by the Dell girls.

We have 2 more chicks waiting for names.

Name the silkie

So we have our 4th set of baby chicks, and this time we decided to have all of Casandra's nieces and nephews name them. There are four. One has already been taken by the Elzingas. Swoop was chosen by Jared, I guess Spencer and Kendra would approve of that. So there are 3 more chicks up for naming. The first 3 names we get from the other families will go. There are 2 white ones and one more black one. Let us know...I have a feeling one might be named Buzz Lightyear!

Update

It has been a long time since we have posted anything, and we have had a big chicken week. It started off sad, Zorro died this week. We're not sure what happened, she was fine on Friday, and on Saturday she was gone :(

Next: This week was the Utah Fancy Poultry Association Show in Farmington. It was fun to go to. We put Sugar in the show. There were probably close to 1000 birds. Sugar won Best of Variety. Here was one of the other silkies that was gorgeous. The person that owns them, I think, is named Josh Singleton...no relation, but cool that there is another Singleton up here that is raising silkies.

Finally: We bought a couple of baby chicks last night. 2 White and 2 Black Silkies.
We will have lots more pictures later, but here are a couple from last night.
